1. How soon can I get an appointment?
Veterans are prioritised and usually offered appointments within 1–2 weeks of referral.
2. Do I need to pay anything for the assessment?
No. DVA covers the cost directly. Veterans do not pay for Initial Liability Claim Assessments.
3. What do I need to bring to the assessment?
If available, please bring or email through:
Service and medical records (if provided to you, not necessary)
Any relevant psychological or psychiatric reports (if available)
4. Can the assessment be done via telehealth?
Yes. Assessments are available nationwide via secure telehealth or in-person in Perth, WA.
5. How long does the DVA take to decide after my assessment?
Processing times vary, but typically range from a few weeks to several months. Our psychiatrist’s role is to provide a comprehensive, timely report to DVA to assist their decision-making.
6. Can I bring a support person or advocate?
Yes. Veterans are welcome to have a support person, family member, or ex-service advocate present during the assessment if they wish.
