1.      How soon can I get an appointment?

  • Veterans are prioritised and usually offered appointments within 1–2 weeks of referral.

2.      Do I need to pay anything for the assessment?

  • No. DVA covers the cost directly. Veterans do not pay for Initial Liability Claim Assessments.

 3.      What do I need to bring to the assessment?

  • If available, please bring or email through:

    • Service and medical records (if provided to you, not necessary)

    • Any relevant psychological or psychiatric reports (if available)

 4.      Can the assessment be done via telehealth?

  • Yes. Assessments are available nationwide via secure telehealth or in-person in Perth, WA.

 5.      How long does the DVA take to decide after my assessment?

  • Processing times vary, but typically range from a few weeks to several months. Our psychiatrist’s role is to provide a comprehensive, timely report to DVA to assist their decision-making.

 6.      Can I bring a support person or advocate?

  • Yes. Veterans are welcome to have a support person, family member, or ex-service advocate present during the assessment if they wish.
